Post-Mercury Retrograde Recovery: What Do We Do With the Broken Pieces?
Hi again… missed me?
Sorry for going MIA. Mercury retrograde took quite the swing at me right at the end. In the heat of the moment, I honestly caught myself thinking, “Why is it always me? Why me?”
A few hours later, after my little pity party, I ended up having a conversation with my guppy friend Ari. Naturally, our conversation revolved around the retrograde. She shared everything that had unfolded on her end, and the overall theme was surprisingly similar to mine. A series of unexpected changes, moments of deep reflection, and simply trying to make it through with as little collateral damage as possible.
Ironically, we both experienced shakeups involving work and heart centered situations. Not exactly shocking… we’re both Scorpios, apparently our sign had it tough this time around… not a shocker… Lol. After our conversation, I sat down with my journal and started reflecting. Eventually, my question changed from “Why did this happen?” to “What do we do after the retrograde has already caused its chaos? What do we do with the broken pieces?”
So… I got to work. Here are my five post retrograde recovery tips, all of which I’ve been practicing during these last few days of full on hermit mode.
1. Let Hermit Mode Become Your Best Friend.
Hermit mode isn’t just for Mercury retrograde, it’s also for what comes after. During the retrograde, the goal is reflection. After the retrograde, the goal is action. Think of it as two completely different phases. One asks you to observe. The other asks you to move. If you’ve lost something, drifted away from someone, or watched a chapter close, don’t immediately try to recreate what you had before. Instead, ask yourself what that experience taught you. Every retrograde leaves behind lessons. Your job isn’t to repeat the same chapter, it’s to use what you’ve learned to write the next one differently. Growth isn’t looping the same experience over and over. Growth is allowing those experiences to change how you move forward.
2. Don’t Wait for “Signs”. Take the Action You’ve Already Reflected On !
This one might be a little controversial… But hear me out… If you’ve genuinely spent time reflecting and you still feel called to reconnect with someone, reach out. Don’t wait for them to text first simply because Mercury retrograde started or ended. Communication is a two way street. Sometimes the action itself becomes the closure, not the response you receive. Now, this doesn’t mean ignoring red flags or abandoning your boundaries. If your reflection showed you that the connection truly belongs in the past, honor that. The point isn’t to text every ex. The point is to reflect first, then act intentionally instead of reacting emotionally.
Sometimes healing looks like silence. Sometimes healing looks like sending the text you’ve been overthinking for weeks. Only your reflection can tell you which one is yours.
3. Clean Your Space Like You’re Closing a Chapter
Retrogrades tend to leave emotional clutter, and emotional clutter usually turns into physical clutter. Wash your sheets. Open the windows. Throw away things you’ve been holding onto “just in case.” Reorganize your altar, your desk, your room, your phone, whatever space has quietly collected stagnant energy. Whether you view this spiritually or psychologically, physically resetting your environment often helps your mind recognize that a new chapter has begun.
4. Don’t Romanticize the Version of You That Needed Those Lessons
It’s easy to miss people, opportunities, routines, or even old versions of ourselves. But remember… You aren’t trying to go backwards. You’re trying to become someone who no longer needs to repeat the lesson. Thank the experience for what it taught you, even if the lesson wasn’t delivered gently.
5. Give Yourself Permission to Begin Again
Mercury retrograde has a funny way of making us feel like we’re behind. You’re not. You were collecting information. You were slowing down long enough to notice what wasn’t working. Now you get to move differently. You don’t need to have every answer before taking your next step. You just need enough clarity to take the first one.
Retrogrades have a reputation for being dramatic, but I honestly think their greatest gift is perspective. Sometimes they remove people. Sometimes they expose cracks that were already there. Sometimes they delay things that weren’t ready yet. Whatever happened during yours, don’t let the story end there.
Take what it taught you, keep what still aligns, release what doesn’t, and step into this next chapter a little wiser than before. The retrograde may be over, but your next chapter is just getting started. Be gentle with yourself, trust your reflection, and I’ll see you soon Guppies 🫂
